Premium Mulberry Silk

Most kids' bonnets are made from a thin single layer of polyester in a satin weave. Ours are made with two layers of the highest quality grade 6A, organic Mulberry silk. This makes them luxurious, yet lightweight and breathable, to protect the moisture of skin and hair.

Perfect Fit Guarantee

We designed our bonnets with small heads in mind, and carry multiple sizes. Our silk bonnets for kids are designed for a snug fit, from 18 months to 18 years. Parents of even the most active sleepers can rest easy knowing their child's hair is protected through the night. And if it's not quite right, we'll exchange it for free.

Sleep Safe Ties

The long ties on other bonnets can fall off during sleep and end up around a child's neck. Our bonnets feature a built-in safety loop, to keep ties safely in place all night.

Frequently asked questions

Is it real silk?

Yes!

The band, ties, and crown of Sleepy Strands bonnets are made entirely of 100% grade 6A, 19 momme Mulberry silk.

Our silk is OEKO-TEX Made in Green certified. This goes beyond the Standard 100, indicating that a third party certified that our materials were:
1) Safety tested and do not contain harmful substances,
2) Made in environmentally responsible facilities, and
3) Made in socially responsible and safe workplaces

Which size should I choose?

Choose by age:
18m - 3y: Small
4y - 9y: Medium
10y+: Large

Our large is a favorite for adults too!

We recommend sizing up for wearers with especially thick hair or high volume styles

My child has thick hair or high volume styles. What if it doesn't fit?

You know your child's hair best! We recommend sizing up so there's enough space in the crown to fit all of their hair comfortably.

If you can't get a good fit between head size and the need for hair space, please let us know. We provide free refunds, and would love to notify you of new designs that may be a better fit!

How does it stay on all night?

We've paid special attention to designing for a perfect fit:

1) One size doesn't fit all. Our bonnets come in 3 sizes to accommodate even the smallest heads as children grow.

2) Elastic in the back and long ties make our bonnets adjustable, so kids within the full age range of each size get a firm and comfy fit.

3) Even the best fitting bonnet might slip during an active night of tossing and turning. Our Safety Loop helps ties stay in place on top of the head instead of around the neck.

If all else fails and the bonnet still slips forward, the right size bonnet still won't cover a child's face while sleeping.

What ages are these bonnets for?

Our bonnets are sized for 18 months to 18 years, but adults use our bonnets, too!

Are bonnets safe for kids?

Yes, when they're made and tested specifically for use by children.

Each manufacturing batch of Sleepy Strands bonnets is tested and certified by a third party CPSC-accredited lab. This ensures compliance with children's product safety rules in the US.

Additionally, our silk is OEKO-TEX Made in Green certified. This goes beyond the Standard 100, indicating that a third party certified that our materials were:
1) Safety tested and do not contain harmful substances,
2) Made in environmentally responsible facilities, and
3) Made in socially responsible and safe workplaces.

Finally, we've taken extra precautions in our design compared to other bonnets for kids. Our Safety Loop helps ties stay in place on top of the head instead of around the neck, even for highly active sleepers.

If all else fails and the bonnet still slips forward, the right size bonnet still won't cover a child's face while sleeping.

My child keeps pulling the bonnet off. Any tips?

It can take a while for kids to get used to wearing a bonnet, but there are several ways you can encourage them:

  • Make sure it's comfortable. If the bonnet fits, but feels too tight, send it back for a free exchange through our Perfect Fit Guarantee. The lightweight natural silk should prevent uncomfortable heat (while polyester satin keeps heat trapped).
  • Wear your own bonnet in front of them! Kids love to copy grown-ups, so seeing you wear a bonnet can lead to more excitement about theirs. (And if you don't have one yet, note that our Large fits many adults!)
  • Give them control. If they can go get their bonnet from a special place themselves, or choose between two colors, it can give them a sense of independence.
  • Make it a ritual. We all get used to our bedtime routines. If you frame putting on their bonnet as part of putting on their pajamas, or if it's the step that comes before story time, they'll build the habit as part of their special nighttime routine with you.
How should I wash it?

For longest life, hand wash in cool water with a gentle detergent, and leave out to dry.

For quick machine wash, place the bonnet in a laundry bag (the same you'd use for delicates or baby socks). Use cold water and a gentle cycle, then leave out to dry.

Do not tumble dry or iron with high heat.
